Description of model’s process

This model simulates the operation of a ship-to-shore crane.The model has a wharfage that allows to simultaneously receive two container ships. By setting the value of the velocity of the crane, the speed of movement of the spreader in a horizontal and vertical direction, and the number of cranes involved in the work it can be defined the total time of container ship’s unloading and quantitative values of unloading process at any point in time. It is also possible to change the quantitative parameters of the vessel, such as the number of rows of containers on the vessel in width, the number of rows of containers on the vessel in length, the total number of containers on the vessel, which in turn allows to analyze the unloading process of any kind of container ship.

Technical description

Model’s input parameters:

  • The number of ship-to-shore cranes;
  • The speed of the ship-to-shore crane;
  • Speed of movement of the spreader in the horizontal direction;
  • Speed of movement of the spreader in the vertical direction;
  • The number of  rows of containers on the vessel in width;
  • The number of rows of containers on the vessel in length;
  • The total number of containers on the vessel.

Output from the model:

  • The number of containers unloaded at any time;
  • The number of containers remaining on the vessel at any time;
  • The total time of container ship’s unloading;
  • Dynamic of the speed of container ship’s unloading.

Result of work

Thanks to the implementation of the dynamic changes of the input parameters, the model makes it possible to analyze the process of container ship’s unloading by changing the parameters of ship-to-shore cranes and container ships.
